Bound explores stigmas associated with sexual deviance and its impact on traditional binary gender roles. Through shibari, a Japanese style of decorative rope bondage, I manipulate and constrict wooden forms and common objects that are both relatable and have distinctly masculine gender categorizations. By introducing aspects of BDSM and kink subculture, I seek to subvert the expectation that submissive traits are inherently feminine, and dominant traits are inherently masculine.
